For Upgrade to Regional, or Maintenance Assessment for existing Regional Referees the following guidelines will help clarify "adult" games;
Only affiliated adult amateur or professional games will count for upgrade, those include
* State adult league competitions
* National Amateur Leagues including NPSL USL League 2 UPSL USSSA UWS WPSL
* USASA Regional Competitions
* USASA National Competitions
Both teams must be adult teams
* All Lamar Hunt Open Cup games
* Professional International Games (friendlies)
* Senior National Team Games (WNT & MNT)
* YNT games that are part of a U.S. Soccer Referee Academy
* USYS U-20 games only
The following games are NOT considered adult games;
* MLS Next - all age groups
* ECNL - all age groups
* USYS Regional and National Competitions U-19 and Younger
* Local youth competitions U-19 and younger
* Development Academy Games - all age Groups
